Assassination Attempt on Mayor Gennadiy Kernes. Life at Risk
Gennadiy Kernes has got a gunshot penetrating wound in his back. “Gorodskoy Dozor” informs that according to Yuriy Sidorenko, the Director of the Department for Information and Public Relations of Kharkiv City Council, it happened while the Mayor was jogging. The shot came from the woods. Mayor Kernes was escorted be his bodyguards in a jeep.

On his Facebook page Yuriy Sapronov, an ex-vice-governor and Mayor’s close friend, writes that the bullet hit under the shoulder blade and got right through the lung and the liver. The doctors of City Hospital of Ambulance and Emergency Care performed the surgery that lasted for about two hours. The wound is qualified as heavy with the injury of internal organs. According to the surgeon Valeriy Boyko, who operated the patient, the Mayor’s life will be at risk for several days.

Gennadiy Kernes was transferred from the operating unit to the ward. The exact location of his residence is not given publicity for security reasons. In the hospital there are Mayor’s bodyguards who are keeping watch as well as the law enforcement officers armed with submachine guns.

The investigation team is working on site. According to preliminary information, the crime scene is the section on Belgorod highway at a distance of about 1.5 kilometers from the village Piatihatki. As it was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs PR Center in Kharkiv region, neither gunman nor weapon have been found yet. There are two pools of blood on the pavement.

Alexander Novak, a secretary of Kharkiv City Council, will temporarily be an acting Mayor of the city. This information is provided by press service of the Kharkiv City Council.

Mikhail Dobkin: “Kernes was shot to kill”

Mikhail Dobkin announced that Kharkiv Mayor was shot while he was jogging. The shot was made by a sniper with a rifle SVD 76 with an eye, Television News Agency informs.

“They were shooting to kill in the heart, but only by a lucky chance, we have what we have – a non-fatal very heavy wound. If you want to know my opinion, they were shooting not at Kernes, they were shooting at Kharkiv”, said Kharkiv ex-governor. Mr. Dobkin added that if he knew who had shot at Kernes he wouldn’t be standing next to the journalists, he would be keeping the throat of that person instead.

Avakov organized a special group to solve the assassination attempt on Kernes The investigation of criminal proceedings into the attempted murder of Kharkiv Mayor Gennadiy Kernes is under control of the Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov. As reported in the press service of the regional department of the police, in order to solve the crime by personal instruction from Avakov, it was created a special investigation team that consists of experienced employees from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Regional Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The investigators have opened the criminal proceedings under Part 2 of article 15, Part 1 of article 115 (attempted murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides up to 15 years in prison.

12 people got injured in the fight between ultras and pro-Russian activists, 3 are in hospital

Three people, who were injured in clashes during the march of football fans, are still staying in Kharkiv Meschaninov City Hospital of Ambulance and Emergency Care. This information was given today, April 28, by the Hospital director Elena Kovaleva, - writes the official website of the Kharkiv city council.

According to Ms Kovaleva, yesterday the hospital received 12 injured. At the moment in hospital there are three patients, among which there is one policeman and two civilians. Their condition is stated as satisfactory. The rest of the injured have received the necessary medical care and have been sent home.

Now the law enforcers are identifying the people who provoked the fight, - informs the PR Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Kharkiv region. It has already been opened the criminal proceedings under Part 1 of article 294 (riots) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

In the center of Kharkiv the police confiscated firecrackers and "Molotov cocktails" from "antimaydan" activists

At Freedom Square the police detained 13 aggressive supporters of federalization. The activists on Freedom Square had illegally set up tents, made the fence of wooden pallets and sand and lit the campfire. The law enforcers confiscated their special equipment, bats, helmets, firecrackers, "Molotov cocktails", etc. According to the PR Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Kharkiv region, the detainees were taken to the police subdivisions for checking.

Court of Appeal Hearing on Dolgov’s case Disrupted

Several dozens supporters of pro-Russian activist Konstantin Dolgov came today to the hearing of the Court of Appeal that was aimed to change the measure of restraint for the suspect in organization of arson of ATM “Privatbank”. The Court decided to hold a meeting in a closed session. Dolgov’s "support group" did not agree with this decision. Some of them had to be taken out by “Grifon” staff. Due to the disruption of the court session the measure of restraint (two months in jail) remained the same, the next hearing is scheduled for April 30.

It should also be noted that the lawyer of another detained Kharkiv pro-Russian activist Ignat Kromskoy, nicknamed "Topaz", informed the Television News Agency that in the next 5 days they will appeal his measure of restraint - custody for 33 days.
